Description

Royal Canin Dental helps maintain your cats oral health by preventing the formation of dental plaque and tartar.

Over 70% of cats will have dental disease by the time they reach the age of three, the most common symptom noticed by owners is bad or fishy smelling breath. Dental disease begins when bacteria, food particles and saliva combine to form a substance called plaque. Plaque adheres to the surface of the tooth, including underneath the gums. If it is not removed mechanically by brushing or chewing, plaque reacts with minerals in the saliva to form a hard, yellowish material known as tartar. As the bacteria in the plaque sits underneath the gums, it creates inflammation of the gums, also known as gingivitis. Left untreated, the bacteria invade into the soft tissues and bone surrounding the tooth. The chronic inflammation from dental disease has negative effects far beyond bad breath. It can also cause damage to the heart, kidneys and liver. Dental disease is painful for your cat, and ultimately results in the loss of teeth and shortening of their life span.

If you think that your cat may have dental disease, take them to your vet for a check-up. Treatment for dental disease usually involves cleaning of the teeth, including under the gums, under general anaesthetic. Simply removing the tartar on the teeth is not enough to fix the problem, as the bacteria will still persist in the plaque below the gums. Once your cats teeth have been given a clean bill of health, Royal Canin Dental can play an important role in their dental disease prevention program.

Royal Canin Dental works to reduce plaque and tartar build up on your cats teeth using sodium polyphosphate, which binds calcium in the saliva to reduce tartar formation. Royal Canin Dental is a complete and balanced diet with added nutrition to help keep your cat happy and healthy. It contains psyllium and dietary fibre to help manage hairballs, as well as highly digestible proteins, fish oil and prebiotics for optimal digestive health. Royal Canin Dental for cats also comes with the S/O Index, meaning it creates a urinary environment unfavourable to the development of struvite and oxalate stones. It supports your cats urinary tract health, by encouraging dilution of the urine to reduce the concentration of struvite and oxalate crystals.
